Seattle History
Seattle was first settled in 1851 and incorporated in 1869. It's had a number of booms and busts over the years, from lumber, the Klondike gold rush, shipbuilding during WW1 and the Boeing boom. Most recently it's economy has greatly benefited from Micorsoft and the other tech industry.
Seattle now
Seattle lies alongside Puget Sound, a deep inland arm of the northern Pacific Ocean, and is one of the largest and most affluent urban centres in the United States. it still maintains a high level of social and public services, excellent schools, and abundant parks and greenbelts, which have earned it the sobriquet “the Emerald City.” Seattleās climate is temperate, with lots of rain, cool summers and mild winters. It receives 37 inches of rain, and has fewer than 60 days of completely sunny days annually.
Things to do
Parks
Mount Ranier National Park about 100 miles SE is breathtaking and a must do if you have the time. With over 485 parks within the city limits, you could spend years visiting them. Some outstanding ones include discovery park for kiddies, seaward park for swiming and the waterfront, Alki Beach Park for a fantastic view of the area and a short ferry ride from downtown.
Golf
Chambers Bay golf course Site of a US open, a premier place to golf, if your up to the challange (no golf carts, walking only). Located near Parkland, about 40 miles south of downtown Seattle. Good luck finding a tee time; be sure to call first. Not Cheap
Salish Cliffs golf club Located about 80 road miles SW of Seattle, another premier course. Located on the Little Creek Casino-Resort property, it offers first class everything for all skill levels.
Jackson Park Golf Course is closer to downtown, a public course, kid friendly (kids play free after 1 Sat and Sunday). Near the Northgate Mall, so you can search for hotels near that if you like.
West Seattle Golf Course Another close in pubic course. Only 6 miles west of downtown, a good choice if your staying there. Address is 4470 35th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98126 if you want to search for closer hotels
See the link on the left for info on other towns....
Tennis
Bellevue club hotel Located in Belleview, about 6 miles east of downtown, this hotel has outstanding facilities. But it's unclear if hotel guests have tennis court privledges and/or availability. So pays to call them directly before booking.
Seattle parks with tennis courts Seattle has 12 parks with public courts. Click on the link to view them.
